In Memoriam Larry Albright 1935-2010 Crusader Coach & Co-Founder Circa 1974 It’s with a very heavy heart I bring the sad news of the passing of Coach Larry Albright, one of our founding members and the very first Head Coach of our Junior Midget division when they came on line in 1970. Larry was instrumental in our organization’s inception in 1968 along with Roger Meitz, Greg Fox, Jack Del Rio Sr., Chuck Belshe, and Richie Silva. Larry passed away at home on Monday August 9th, 2010 from the effects of Alzheimer’s/Dementia in the company of his 2 sons, his wife, and close friends. Larry first became involved with the fledgling Crusader organization in 1968 through his participation in the San Leandro Police Department’s unofficial P.A.L. group which consisted of several officers who believed that kids were our most valuable asset and did something about it. They did more than just “talk the talk”……..they “walked the walk” too! Larry has been an extremely close personal friend of mine for over 40 years as we worked together as partners at the Police Department, coached the Junior Midgets together for several years, played as team-mates on various football & softball teams for over 35 years, rode in my parents motor home to Raider games during their heyday in the 70s; our families were very close as we socialized together quite a bit as good friends tend to do. He’ll always be called “Uncle Larry” by my daughters. Larry absolutely loved kids, served as a mentor to many of them off the field & on; and set the original standard for the renowned level of play and class our Organization is so proud of. In short, he was a truly wonderful guy…….those of us who are so intimately involved with the Crusaders owe him more than we’ll ever know. Your legacy will always live on though us Larry, it was an honor to be in your life and I’ll miss you pal. May God Bless You!
